Pinot Blanc 2018
Domaine Zind Humbrecht’s Pinot Blanc comes from the vineyards that surround the winery and Rotenberg, a fabulous single vineyard. A dash of Auxerrois, an ancestor of Chardonnay, adds a little more richness to final wine, as does a brief stint in old French oak barrels. The result is a smooth and voluptuous feeling wine, with nutty granola aromas and flavours of white peach, pear and brioche. It almost reminds us of Vintage Champagne without the bubbles and with lower acidity. This super-versatile wine goes with almost anything but is equally wonderful on its own, making it a great addition to any wine rack.
The Humbrecht family can trace their illustrious winemaking roots back to the early 1600s, with this family-run business proudly passing from father to son for 400 years. We hope that the mothers and daughters will also get a look in during the 21st Century. Today, Domaine Zind Humbrecht cultivate 45 hectares in the Haut-Rhin area of Alsace, snuggled within the foothills of the Vosges mountains and dotted with little gingerbread towns. Under the leadership of the Master of Wine, Olivier Humbrecht, they’ve gone down a natural and traditional route, focusing on maturation in big oval barrels, becoming organic and biodynamic certified, and even ploughing their vineyards using a horse. As a result, the wines are Alsace classics that absolutely sing of their terroir.
