Alberese Rosso Toscano 2017 - Fattoria di Sammontana

Fattoria di Sammontana

Alberese Rosso Toscano 2017

Alberese is the name of the soil that the Sangiovese vines of Chianti love so much. However, whereas Chianti is normally fairly chunky, here they have been used to make an energetic, vivacious, light-bodied red that is a delight served lightly chilled.

Crafted from Sangiovese and a dash of Trebbiano, Fattoria di Samontana’s Alberese is summery with a Tuscan earthiness. Harvey Nichols adores this with a simple Caprese salad, gently flavoured game and garlicky mushrooms on sourdough toast.

Fattoria di Sammontana, originally a property of the Medici family not far from Florence, was bought by a Polish nobleman by the name of Michele Dzieduszucki who liked to holiday in Tuscany. Now the fourth generation of that lineage runs the farm as an organic and biodynamic vineyard and olive grove. Peas and beans are sown between the rows of vines and everything is done following the rhythms of the moon in this bucolic paradise. The wine is made with naturally occurring yeasts that are bottled unfiltered and unfined.
