93 points, “This was matured predominantly in first-fill sherry casks. The nose offers pineapple, mango, malt, and nutmeg. Richly sherried on the muscular palate, with caramel, citrus fruits, liquorice and wood tannins. The finish is long and drying, with Sherry-soaked old oak. Glenrothes at its very best.” – Whisky Advocate

“A rather perfect allrounder indeed… In truth it is rather excellent, really sweet and easy, and complex.” – Serge Valentin, Whisky Fun

Serge Valentin has nailed it. This really is a sensational bottling. The Glenrothes 25 Year Old spent a quarter of a century in Sherry-seasoned oak, most of which comprised first-fill casks. What emerged from those barrels is a rhapsody of salted caramel, mango, pineapple, coriander seeds, marmalade, cedar, malted milk biscuits, treacly liquorice, caramel-covered shortbread, coffee liqueur, moist tobacco, figgy fruitcake and crème brûlée. It also has the most wonderful floral notes, like distant blossom, wildflowers and heather honey. So rich and heady, this is blow-your-socks-off good.

The Glenrothes has been quietly creating some of Scotland’s most underrated malt whisky since 1879. This traditional Speyside distillery in Rothes still makes whisky the same way it did when it first opened. Famed for its use of Sherry-seasoned oak from Jerez in Spain, the whiskies are as pleasing and rounded as the signature bottles.
