Guinevere Chardonnay 2014
While the original Gusbourne Estate dates back to 1410, it was not until Andrew Weeber took over in 2004 that winemaking started to take place. Vines were planted that same year, and the first vintages of Brut Reserve and Blanc de Blans were released in 2010. A relatively young operation, Gusbourne now stretches over 40 hectares in Kent and 22 in West Sussex all blessed with clay and sandy loam soil, particularly well-suited to vine growing.
Aged for 9 months in French oak, this prime example of English Chardonnay is a must try for Burgundy lovers. The 2014 vintage shows a great combination of citrus and mineral notes with a buttery, creamy complexity. A lively acidity lifts the palate in an impressively long finish. Already perfect to drink now, it is sure to gain complexity with a couple of years of bottle age.
