Blanc De Blancs 2013
In the January 2019 edition of Decanter Magazine this was awarded 94 points and was the very first wine to feature in their “The most exciting wines of 2018” list.
While the original Gusbourne Estate dates back to 1410, it was not until Andrew Weeber took over in 2004 that winemaking started to take place. Vines were planted that same year and the first vintages of Brut Reserve and Blanc De Blancs were released in 2010. A relatively young operation, Gusbourne now stretches over 40 hectares in Kent and 22 in West Sussex, all blessed with clay and sandy loam soil, particularly well suited to vine growing.
A truly stunning example of Blanc De Blancs, this 2013 vintage exhibits a pure Chardonnay character, with appealing notes of citrus zest, green apple and unripe melon alongside an elegant salty, marine hedge. Hints of toast and freshly baked pastry accompany a long, zesty finish. Incredibly complex and a real gourmet wine, this cuvée could be enjoyed on its own or alongside chevice, oysters or noble seafood.
