The Martini Hamper
Probably the world’s most iconic cocktail. The Martini has been the weapon of choice for James Bond, Humphrey Bogart and Homer Simpson, the latter who incidentally likes his in the classic style “full of alcohol”. Although thought to have evolved from the Martinez, its history is as tricky to pin down as an agreement on the perfect recipe. With hundreds of variations from Larousse’s ratio of 4:1 to Noel Coward’s preference of filling a glass with gin and waving it in the general direction of Italy, even the famous Martini-sipper 007 seems to have gotten himself in a muddle, opting for “shaken not stirred” to the chagrin of most bartenders. And don’t even get us started on gin versus vodka…
What we can all agree on, is that the Martini is probably one of America’s greatest inventions and should be served Arctic cold. Our love for this legendary drink is why we’ve put together The Martini Hamper. It contains the four-time winner of the “World’s Best Gin”; an exclusive Russian vodka in a bottle that looks like it was plucked straight from The Great Gatsby; the closest French aperitif wine we could find to the sadly discontinued Kina Lillet used in the original Vesper; and some olives in brine to serve on the side, or to use in the making of a Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s much-loved Dirty Martini. So, why don't you get out of that wet coat and into a Dry Martini?
