High-flying winemaker meets high-altitude grapes in this classy Cabernet Sauvignon made by Stephen Huse on the prestigious Belhara estate way up in the Andes. A real Argentine aristocrat it is smooth and ready for drinking now preferably gaucho-style with grilled beef and chimichurri.

Fans of our Malbec will already be well acquainted with the quality of the wines made at the family-owned Belhara Estate. This winery can be found nestled in Argentina’s Uco Valley beneath blue skies and surrounded by the sharp teeth of snow-capped mountains. The winemaker Stephen Huse studied in Bordeaux and then did stints at Château Margaux Mouton-Rothschild Harlan Estate and Almaviva – Concha y Toro’s collaboration with Baron Philippe de Rothschild. The exceptional Grand Vins produced at all of those famous wineries are predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon and Stephen Huse brings all that pedigree and know-how to bear in this cracking Argentine red.

The Harvey Nichols Mendoza Cabernet Sauvignon opens with elegant aromas of festive spices dried flowers leather black cherry and crème de cassis while on the palate raspberry wild blackberry more cherry smoke and cedar notes mingle with a sense of minerality and mountain freshness. The splash of Malbec and Cabernet Franc adds complexity structure and intrigue. This wine tangos beautifully with slow-cooked stews roasts red meat and anything from an Argentine asado or barbeque that has taken on that wonderful charcoal flavour and whiff of smoke.
