Lochranza Castle 21 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky Explorer Series 2
After discontinuing their popular Smugglers Series, The Isle of Arran Distillers have released a brand new limited edition Explorers Series, paying homage to the natural beauty of an island often described as Scotland in miniature. The inaugural release was the Brodick Bay 20 Year Old, which has now sold out. The second is the majestic Lochranza Castle, to be found in the village on the north of the island that’s also home to the distillery.
This 21 Year Old Single Malt was aged in Sherry hogsheads, before being finished in Amontillado casks from the highly respected Bodegas Tradición. Only 9,000 bottles of this collectable dram were filled, and it’s a veritable sweet shop of sugared almonds, peanut brittle, chocolate covered crystallised ginger, salted caramel, pineapple cubes and honeycomb, combined with grownup flavours of vanilla, Assam tea, cigar smoke, dried herbs, chewy apricots, Demerara sugar and dusty antique furniture.
This is a wonderful gift for anyone who has visited or dreams of visiting Arran. It comes packaged in a stunning heavy decanter and gift tin, with a label depicting the local stags grazing with the imposing ruins of Lochranza Castle on its peninsula behind. Boasting some of the purest water in all of Scotland, this remote young distillery had to delay their opening to avoid disturbing a pair of nesting Golden Eagles. It has since become much-loved by whisky connoisseurs throughout the world. The Lochranza Castle 21 Year Old is sure to continue that trend.
