95 points, “All the ripeness of this very warm vintage, married to wonderful freshness that gives this the light-footedness of a great dancer. Mostly white fruit, but just a hint of fresh pineapple. Long, silky finish.” – James Suckling

94 points, “Jellied quince and apple are laced with zesty lemon and grapefruit as well as garlanded in honeysuckle for an aromatically alluring and luscious performance. The polished, pure, buoyant midpalate impression is complemented by a vibrant finish that delivers refreshing citric juiciness of grapefruit and Meyer lemon as well as wafting florality and a kiss of wet stone. This is likely to make superbly elegant mature wine.” – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous

94 points, “Subtle notes of yellow peach and pollen introduce this gorgeously sunny yet complex Spätlese. Flavours of tangerine and preserved quince drench the palate in waves of zesty sweet-tart fruit, but there's also a depth of smoke, slate and struck flint in the backdrop. Delightful already, this will continue to open and meld through 2035.” – Wine Enthusiast

Graacher Himmelreich borders the southern edge of the iconic Wehlener Sonnenuhr – the latter being a vineyard that the Prüm family will always be tied to because Jodicus Prüm built the sundial that gives it its name, to allow the workers and locals to better know the time. Although Wehlener Sonnenuhr may be more prestigious, Graacher Himmelreich often rivals its famous neighbour at a lower price.

The 2018 Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese opens with a spicy nose and lots of juicy stone fruit. On the palate, it’s round, luscious and seemingly seasoned with sea salt and pepper. The balance of sweetness and acidity is in a word, perfection. Drink it now and you’ll love it; save it until 2030 or beyond and you’ll wish you’d bought cases of it. Pair this vegan-friendly delight with fresh Vietnamese dishes, Thai salads, dumplings, citrus-doused tacos, pork with apple sauce, sausages and mash or nibbles before dinner.

Founded in 1911, Joh. Jos. Prüm (also known simply as JJ Prüm) is arguably one of the most iconic German producers. The estate stretches for 33.5 hectares alongside the Mosel Valley and the family have been cultivating vines along the banks of the Mosel since the 17th Century. Renowned for the pure and exceptionally long-lived expression of Riesling they create from the most prestigious vineyards and predominantly ungrafted vines, the estate is now managed by Dr. Manfred Prüm and his daughter Dr. Katharina Prüm.
