The Kubota Sake Tasting Pack 3 x 300ml

£49.00

Kubota is one of the new sake brands to our range that we’re most excited about, which is why we put together this Tasting Pack as an introduction to this outstanding producer.

Kubota is made at Asahi Shuzo in Niigata, a mountainous Japanese prefecture full of rivers and valleys, and home to Mount Tanigawa. So, the locals need sakes that can be enjoyed in the wild, paired with foraged foods, picnics, barbeques and sushi and sashimi eaten on the go. So, we highly recommend taking this flight out for a picnic if you can.

Firm believers that “the quality of sake can never exceed the quality of its ingredients”, Asahi Brewery use only the finest raw materials. They work closely with local farmers to ensure access to the ultimate sake-brewing rice and keep their production techniques a well-guarded secret.

Our selection includes their top-tier sake, our Buyer’s pick and the brand’s bestseller. Open the bag to discover 30cl bottles of the following three expressions:

  • 1 x Kubota Manjyu Junmai Daiginjo Sake 300ml – Manjyu is Kubota’s flagship creation. As well as receiving countless gold medals and a huge score on RateBeer.com, this Junmai Daiginjo (the most refined sake grade) is acclaimed in John Gauntner’s “Joy of Sake” as one of the finest examples of its kind. Highly polished, this premium sake is an exhilarating and flawless affair that will appeal to fans of Dassai and fine wine. Clean and silky smooth in texture, we recommend serving it lightly chilled and then spend the next few hours picking apart its complex notes of pear sorbet, creamy Champagne, gingerbread, melon, vanilla, cinnamon, clove, rose petal, rice cakes, nutty quinoa, orange blossom and caramelised pineapple. The name roughly translates as “10,000 celebrations”, so save this for special occasions and pair with delicate dishes that let the sake take centre stage.
  • 1 x Kubota Junmai Daiginjo Sake 300ml – This is our Buyer’s personal favourite. In his own words: “The texture and mouthfeel of this sake is exquisite. It’s like drinking liquid silk.” Wonderfully modern, Kubota Junmai Daiginjo (the most refined sake grade) is crafted from pure Gohyakumangoku rice, a variety renowned for its clean flavour. The grains are gently polished until only 50% remains. This removes all the bits that impart the more rustic, umami and rice-y flavours, leaving just the starch and its more delicate and aromatic notes. The result is a crisp and balanced sake with refreshing acidity, rich fruitiness and a gorgeous fragrance – think pineapple, mango, melon, pear, cinnamon, clove and summer florals. Serve this lightly chilled as an aperitif when the sun comes out, maybe accompanied by canapés, agedashi tofu, tempura prawns or sashimi.
  • 1 x Kubota Senjyu Ginjo Sake 300ml – This is Kubota’s bestselling sake, and it’s not hard to see why. If you’re looking for the perfect sake to go with a tapas-style meal encompassing lots of varied dishes, then look no further than this crowd pleaser. Immensely food friendly, the highly polished Kubota Ginjo Senjyu is light, crisp and dry, displaying delicate notes of melon, dried pineapple, candied fruits, banana, nutmeg, a light nuttiness and a touch of roasted asparagus. This versatile little bottle can be served lightly chilled, at room temperature, or even lightly warmed in a bain-marie, but our preference is to serve it chilled with a starter and then let it gradually warm through the meal as the evening progresses.
