Tasting Notes
92 points, “The 2010 La Nerthe Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits the rare combination of unbridled power and freshness, minerality and abundant aromatics. A well-made, delicious red, with blueberry, boysenberry, black raspberry fruit, some background wood smoke, and the tell-tale Provencal garrigue, pepper and loamy soil notes, it is a wine of finesse, power and richness that should drink nicely for 10 to 15+ years.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Certified organic since 1998, Château La Nerthe is one of the oldest estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, one of the very first to bottle their own wines and one of the first to export their wines outside of France. So, they are trusted hands.
2010 was “a very successful vintage” in the Southern Rhône according to Jancis Robinson. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate rated it an “extraordinary” year in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The reds are precise, fresh, terroir driven and seem to have great ageing potential. So, the Châteauneuf-du-Pape from this vintage is not to be missed.
Château La Nerthe’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2010 is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault and a splash of a few other bits and pieces. Matured in oak for 12 months, it captures the finesse of the vintage. Blackcurrants, cherries, plum crumble, raspberry, black tea, lavender, toast, vanilla, woodsmoke, cola and earthy spices all come together in an exceptional and velvety red. Consider pairing with roast lamb, slow-cooked stews and winter fare. This is ready to go and drinking beautifully now.
