Le P'tit Paysan

L’Apiculteur Viognier 2015

£33.50

Ian Brand, Le P’tit Paysan’s winemaker, makes French-inspired wines in California from discovered “great vineyards at the edge of sensible farming”. Located in the Monterey, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara and San Benito counties, those remote and challenging vineyards benefit from dramatic microclimates and varied soils. Ian’s approach to match sites and varieties produces idiosyncratic wines that have earned attention and praise for their nervy, mineral and complex character.

His L’Apiculteur – “The Beekeeper” – Viognier is lively and precise notes of honeysuckle, toffee apple, wildflower meadows, crisp pear, apricot, oak and peach blossom. In the mouth the wine reveals tremendous focus and tension, partial malolactic fermentation gives it a particularly satisfying texture. This is real wine for people who aren’t interested in trophies, scores or fancy wineries, just the truly delicious experience that comes from hard graft.
