Age Du Fleurs 15 Carats Cognac
Léopold Gourmel is a leading artisanal Cognac house, founded by Olivier Blanc in 1972. Olivier's aim is to make 'intelligent' Cognacs that remain faithful to nature, by avoiding the usual standardisation and blending of Cognacs (instead he makes his Cognacs from a single vintage), and rejecting the legal use of additives. His Cognacs are classed according to the length of time they age, with 10, 15 and 20 Carats reflecting the minimum of 10, 15 or 20 years that the Cognacs have aged. Uniquely, he also classes his Cognacs according to their dominant aromas: fruit, floral or spice aromas. All of the Cognacs produced originate in vineyards located in the hilly Premier Cru area of Fins Bois, with the oldest subsoils and best exposure to the sun, without the use of chemicals or pesticides. In addition all of the releases are made from a single vintage, aged of their fine lees to increase intensity and only lightly filtered.
Léopold Gourmel Age Des Fleurs is a 15 year old offering from which is rich, complex and floral in style. Notes of apricot, almonds, vanilla and lime zest are evident on the nose, whilst the palate is full and expressive, with warming hints of oak spice on the finish. An excellent release, which is reputed to be Léopold Gourmel’s Cellar Master’s favourite from the range.
