97 points “The complexity of chocolate toasted almonds praline burnt toffee mushrooms and earth here is stunning. There’s a beautiful spiced cherry-biscuit edge too. The palate has a suave supple and silky feel with such fleshy depth and drive.” – James Suckling

19 points “Rich and dense and round. An alluring sweetness and so flattering.” – Jancis Robinson

A Champagne superstar. Expect a raft of big scores as more critics get a chance to taste this. Hailing from 1999 – a vintage rated as “outstanding” by the experts at Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate despite it being stormy and windy – this wine has been 20 years in the making. It’s only the third vintage to be released of Cristal Vinothèque Rosé by Champagne Louis Roederer and they’ve achieved a wine of unrivalled concentration and richness.

As one of the first vintages to be created by the new Chef de Cave Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon Vinothèque Rosé 1999 ushers in a new era for Cristal in considerable style. It has been aged “sur lattes” (horizontally on the lees) for seven years followed by seven years “sur pointes” (vertically with the lees in the neck of the bottle) and six years after disgorgement (removal of the lees). Two decades later it still has remarkable energy and vigour. Pale rose gold with a delicate bead Vinothèque Rosé 1999 is rich with notes of cocoa smoky coffee beans toasted hazelnuts wild strawberries pink sugared almonds summer raspberries cream oily pine nuts rose water truffles pink oyster mushrooms and something between pain-aux-raisin and cranberry-laced stollen. Intense and powerful with so much potential this has been worth the three-year wait.

Established in 1776 Louis Roederer is one of the few remaining independent family-owned Champagne houses. By 1876 the House had achieved such a reputation for quality that the second Louis Roederer was asked by Tsar Alexander II to create a new Champagne Cristal for the exclusive use of the Russian Tsars. Made exclusively from the best grapes of Louis Roederer’s own vineyards which are all organically farmed and many are in conversion to biodynamic. It is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay of which a portion has been vinified in oak giving the wine a full round body and texture that is characteristic for the House style.

Each bottle comes beautifully presented in a decorative box making it the perfect gift for wine connoisseurs.
