95 points “The 2000 Cristal Vinothèque bursts with notes of golden orchard fruit mandarin white flowers and iodine. Full-bodied ample and powerful with a deep and layered core lively acids and a beautifully pearly mousse it's a long sapid Champagne that's showing very well today. As Lecaillon observes the Vinothèque is the house's riposte to ‘everyone who says Cristal is released too young – with the Vinothèque releases we've exaggerated the aging process to make Cristal more powerful and more dramatic.’ And this release is certainly a formidable effort in a vintage impacted by hail in the Montagne de Reims.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

Harvested in 2000 – a vintage rated as ‘Outstanding’ by the experts at Wine Advocate – this wine has been 20 years in the making. Although a little chaotic and complicated the vintage yielded classic wines which are elegant and precise. This is only the fourth release of the ultra-rare Cristal Vinothèque by Champagne Louis Roederer and the house say that “there is a sensation of perfection in the exceptional tasting experience.”

As the second vintage to be created by the new Chef de Cave Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon Vinothèque 2000 is clearly a wine building in confidence. It has been aged “sur lattes” (horizontally on the lees) for eleven years followed by five years “sur pointes” (vertically with the lees in the neck of the bottle) and four years after disgorgement (removal of the lees). Two decades later it still has remarkable energy and vigour; tasting like candied lemon peel orange sorbet peach apricot mirabelle pear nougat roasted hazelnuts exotic spices honeysweet vanilla pod chalk oyster shells and a trip to the boulangerie for baguette almond croissants and other pastries. Electric energy unfathomable richness and so much potential the first Cristal Vinothèque of the 2000s is simply fabulous.

Established in 1776 Louis Roederer is one of the few remaining independent family-owned Champagne houses. By 1876 the House had achieved such a reputation for quality that the second Louis Roederer was asked by Tsar Alexander II to create a new Champagne Cristal for the exclusive use of the Russian Tsars. Made exclusively from the best grapes of Louis Roederer’s own vineyards which are all organically farmed and many are in conversion to biodynamic. It is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay of which a portion has been vinified in oak giving the wine a full round body and texture that is characteristic for the House style.

Each bottle comes beautifully presented in a decorative box making it the perfect gift for wine connoisseurs.
