Tino Vermentino di Sardegna 2020
This crisp fresh white from Sardinia is screaming out to be paired with a Caprese salad in the summer sunshine.
They’ve called this vegan-friendly wine “Tino”, a diminutive of the grape Vermentino, but there’s nothing small about it beyond its cute stumpy bottle. Having spent a couple of months on the lees, it’s big and round, with plump apricot, peach, nectarine and salted almond flavours, plus something that brings to mind the sea lapping at the chalky White Cliffs of Dover. There’s also lots of wild greenery in there, such as rosemary, thyme and sage, making Mora & Memo’s Tino Vermentino di Sardegna a fine choice to pair with quiche, herby omelette, picnics, salads, barbeques or a simply cooked catch of the day.
They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but the beautiful packaging from Mora & Memo is proof that the same rule does not apply to wine bottles, because what’s inside is phenomenal. They are the realisation of a dream for Elisabetta Pala – whose family make some of the most famous wines on the island. Her estate in the southeast corner of Sardinia – surrounded by the Sette Fratelli mountains and not far from the sea – is wild, charmingly rustic and blessed with wonderful soils.
