Established in 1934, Nikka Whisky Co. has become a prominent fixture in Japan, known for products of outstanding quality and a focused, intense flavour. Nikka's Whisky From The Barrel is a combination of more than 100 Japanese single malt and grain whiskies produced at the Miyagikyo and Yoichi distilleries, which are blended and then re-casked into a massive variety of barrel types (Bourbon barrels, Shery butts, refill hogsheads and many more) to create a harmonious resulting spirit with an immense depth of flavour. Displaying floral, apricot, autumn leaves, antique oak, tobacco and citrus notes on the nose, the palate is big but well-balanced, with a depth of spicy oak, gingerbread, clove-y Christmas spices, stewed plums, sultanas, smoked sea salt, chipotle chilli and ripe fruit, leading to a long, persistent finish. Always a fine choice of gift for discerning whisky drinkers.
