Oxley Cold Distilled London Dry Gin
£43.00
Tasting Notes
Secretive, scientific and scarce; this is quite literally the coolest new gin of the season.
Most gins are distilled at around 70-100°C. At these temperatures the delicate botanicals can be burnt, cooked and their essence lost. That’s why many gins use dried peel. To capture the freshness of the fourteen botanicals, Oxley Gin is distilled in a vacuum causing the spirit to evaporate at around -5°C. A pump is used to pull the crisp vapours out. The result is so bright you almost need sunglasses to drink it, so energetic it could leap out of the glass, and so fresh that it would have made Will Smith in his princely youth appear decrepit.
Crafted rather covertly by Bacardi; at the time of writing there wasn’t so much as a website. The process is so laborious that they can only create 240 bottles a day, making this a rare gin to boot. Each one of the botanicals – juniper, fresh grapefruit, fresh orange, fresh lemon, coriander, cassia bark, liquorice, angelica root, orris root, almonds, cocoa nibs, meadowsweet, vanilla and nutmeg – is perfectly captured. This revolutionary bottling could usher in a new era for gin; you heard it here first.
