A wine as unique and elegant as the bottle that adorns it. Desiderius Méthode Cap Classique from Pongrácz is crafted using the same method as Champagne from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes handpicked from three plots in Robertson Stellenbosch and Elgin. It was then matured on the lees for at least 72 months before disgorgement that’s five years longer than required for Champagne.

This labour of love in its striking fluted bottle displays rich notes of red apple orange peel toasted almonds and buttered bread. Fabulous value and a showstopping centrepiece to any occasion.

Desiderius Pongrácz was a count from the Hungarian aristocracy and a lover of dachshunds. Following his graduation from the Academy for Agriculture he joined the cavalry but was captured by the Russians. After a decade toiling in one of the infamous labour camps in Siberia he was released back into the midst of the Hungarian uprising from which he escaped to Africa where he became a farm manager in Namibia. His journey then took him to Stellenbosch where he played a leading role in shaping viticulture in South Africa for two decades. Sadly he died in a tragic accident doing what he loved while transporting Chardonnay grapes to a nearby winery. The wines that bear his name are every bit as intriguing charismatic blue-blooded and pioneering as the man himself.
