This exclusive 200ml bottling represents a rare and ever-diminishing opportunity to taste the exquisite grain whisky from Glasgow’s ghost distillery Port Dundas.

Full-sized bottles of Port Dundas at this kind of age are seldom seen and if they are then they tend to be hellishly expensive. So this 20cl bottle offers a unique and very affordable chance to sample something that many of us will never witness again.

Bottled exclusively for Harvey Nichols by the experts at Douglas Laing & Co. this 17 Year Old Port Dundas opens with smoked meats before developing peat charred oak and subtle warming spice notes. We love the brown sugar and vanilla cream combo reminiscent of crème brûlée and the touch of soft stone fruits and stewed apples that remind us of making pies and crumbles during the colder months. Mature Port Dundas is always an intriguing prospect not to be missed.

Once upon a time Glasgow’s Port Dundas was the largest distillery in Scotland. Established in 1811 it provided grain components for Johnnie Walker J&B Bell’s Haig and many more. It grew and grew absorbing neighbouring distilleries. However Diageo decided to concentrate grain whisky production at Cameronbridge and North British Distillery so Port Dundas was closed in 2010. The landmark was demolished in 2011 making this bottling something that can never be repeated.

Douglas Laing & Co. was founded in 1948 by a former RAF pilot Fred Douglas Laing. Initially blenders the company began bottling Single Malt in 1999 and rapidly built an enviable reputation as one of Scotland’s finest independent bottlers. They returned to the blending business as well and are now famed for their much-loved Big Peat Scallywag Timorous Beastie Gauldrons and many more. Their ethos is to provide the whisky lover with Scotch as the distiller intended i.e. as close to sampling a dram straight from the cask as possible. Following apprenticeships at Whyte & Mackay and White Horse Distillers Fred Hamilton Laing took over the family business and has now passed the baton to his daughter Cara Laing. Douglas Laing & Co. has now also entered the distillation game as well purchasing Strathearn Distillery and with another Clutha in the pipeline.
