We’re always excited about new releases from Shafer. And this is the fourth-ever vintage of this Merlot (56%) Cabernet Sauvignon (23%) and Malbec (21%) blend. Pulling the cork unleashes a flurry of blueberry muffins plum crumble blackberries Black Forest gateau raspberries black olive graphite spices dried herbs and bay leaves. Although named after the tractor John Shafer rode around the vineyards this is a wine that belongs on the fine wine list of any top restaurant.
In the 1970s John Shafer packed in his morning commute in Chicago for driving a TD-9 tractor around vineyards in Napa Valley. Some of the vineyards that the Shafers purchased were first planted in the 1880s so had quite the pedigree. This pioneering spirit was rewarded as Shafer has been called “one of the world’s greatest wineries” by Robert Parker. They get all their power from solar panels and have donated five acres of their land to the Wildlife Rescue Center of Napa County.
