Tasting Notes
St. Supéry Estate was founded by the Skalli family in 1982. Inspired by wines like this, it was bought by the fashion house Chanel in 2015 (joining the likes of Château Rauzan-Ségla and Château Canon), making this a very stylish wine indeed.
Élu 2015 is a blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 7% Malbec, 5% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot from St. Supéry’s Rutherford and Dollarhide vineyards. It’s then aged in French oak for 19 months. Created with the influence of winemaking royalty, Michel Rolland, and named after the French word for “chosen” or “elected”, Élu is a seamless and elegant Bordeaux blend of remarkable depth. Dark and energetic, it buzzes with crème de cassis, roasted coffee beans, blackberry jam, plum crumble, star anise, treacle, vanilla and toasted oak. Wonderful proof that you can make an eco-friendly wine that’s brimming with opulence, luxury and a touch of the exotic.
Located in Rutherford in the very heart of Napa Valley, St. Supéry Estate Vineyards and Winery is a 100% estate grown, certified Napa Green and dedicated to sustainability in every aspect of their farming and winemaking. They only plant vineyards on one third of their land to promote biodiversity, they’ve installed over 100 bird boxes, they create compost with the leftover grape skins, seeds and stems, they get around 80% of their energy from solar panels, their bottles are made from recycled glass, they have their own culinary garden for their catering, you name it, they’re doing it. An excellent winery and an example to all around it.
