Mio Sparkling Sake 150ml
From here on in FFS should stand for fruity, fizzy sake. Fun and frivolous, Takara Brewery’s Mio Sparkling Sake is the very definition of oishii.
With the rise of wine and whisky in Japan, the nihonshu industry – nihonshu being the Japanese name for the rice wine we call sake – took a bit of a knock. So the clever brewers went away and invented something entirely new: sparkling sake. Mio, in its distinctive blue bottle, is one the most popular examples. This carbonated sake is an eruption of sweet bubbles, pear drops, Granny Smith apples, vanilla and blackberries. Its low alcohol, twist cap and touch of sweetness make it perfect for a cheeky tipple on a long train journey, picnics, aperitif on the go, lighter desserts and impromptu celebrations. Serve chilled in a flute as an alternative to Prosecco or Moscato d’Asti, or mix into Japanese-inspired cocktails. When you run out, don’t despair, simply mutter “FFS” or “Mamma Mio” and we’ll bring more.
Takara first started brewing back in 1842. The original brewery is in Japan’s old capital, Kyoto. After the Millennium an impressive second brewery was added to the portfolio called Shirakabe Gura. Located in the neighbouring prefecture Hyogo – home to Kobe beef – the name of this second site means “White Wall” – a badge of honour of the cleanliness required to make great sake.
