Blason d’Aussières Corbières 2019

If the iconic Bordeaux First Growth Château Lafite Rothschild made Corbières…

…oh hold up, they do. And it's called Château d’Aussières. They even have a very reasonably priced second wine by the name of Blason d’Aussières. Plush winemaking royalty meets the warmth and garrigues of Southern France.

Baron Eric de Rothschild discovered this property in sunny Languedoc-Roussillon and instantly fell in love with it. With winemaking history dating back to Roman times, the family painstakingly restored the estate and it’s now one of the most impressive in the entire region and is leading Corbières’ renaissance.

This outpost of the Lafite Rothschild family turns out outstanding Corbières year in, year out. This is a blend of sun-kissed Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Alicante Henri Bouschet and Grenache. The Carignan partially undergoes carbonic maceration, which is the same process that gives Beaujolais its freshness and crunch. This creates a fabulously ripe and fruit-driven wine with a sunny disposition. It’s packed with dried herbs, flint, spices, graphite, eucalyptus, fresh sage, blackcurrant, blueberry and hints of fruit brandy. Always so reliable, this is becoming one of our go-to wines for summer lunches, comfort food, rustic dishes and just because!
