Transcontinental Rum Line

Jamaica Worthy Park 2013 Navy Strength Rum

£79.95

In the olden days, barrels of rum spent long periods aboard ships as they travelled between their birth places in the New World to their drinkers in the Old Continent. From a nautical perspective it gave sailors something to drink that was more palatable than the stagnant water on deck or the salt water that surrounded them. Rums were often aged in Europe as the cooler climate resulted in less evaporation and a smoother finish, and here Scotch and Cognac masters could create unique finishes. The Transcontinental Rum Line recreates these voyages with its limited-edition bottlings.

This particular rum was distilled in 2013 at Worthy Park Estate, a Jamaican distillery whose history can be traced back to the mid-1600s when it was gifted to Lieutenant Francis Price by Oliver Cromwell. It spent almost two years in the heat of the Caribbean, and then a further two and half years in Europe, before being bottled at Navy Strength of 57% in 2017. Pulling the stopper on this tot releases childhood memories of penny sweets (cola bottles, rhubarb and custards, jelly beans, pear drops, mint imperials, foam bananas and chocolate-coated toffees), tinned pineapple, hot cross buns, apple pie, beeswax candles, pine needles and coal smoke. Get you sea legs on and jump on board a real rum.
