Verdant Dry Gin
The first drop of gin to be distilled in Dundee around two centuries put the city straight back on the spirits map by winning Scottish Gin of the Year 2017.
This really is the spirit of Dundee. The Art Deco bottle features the Law Memorial, which can be seen from all over the city. But there is more to it than that. Dundee is a city built on the industries of jute, jam and journalism. Verdant Gin is distilled in an old jute factory using a 500-litre pot still called Little Eddie. The city will always be associated with jam after Janet Keiller invented marmalade when her son James landed a cargo-load of Seville oranges. So, of course, Verdant Gin is created with a heavy dose of bitter orange peel. And when it comes to the journalism, the column inches received from the aforementioned accolade and the Gold Medal at The Spirits Business’ The Gin Masters will ensure huge press coverage.
Using ten botanicals that reflect Dundee’s rich trading history, Andrew Mackenzie has created a gin of punchy pepper and juniper, accompanied by notes of sweet marmalade, lemon drizzle cake and high-quality Danish liquorice. Consider mixing it into a classic Breakfast Martini with a spoon or marmalade. Alternatively, it makes a fabulous gin and tonic; Harvey Nichols particularly enjoys it with our Orange & Lavender Tonic Water.
