Tasting Notes
93 points, “This is a selection of fruit from vines averaging 50 years old, the parcels scattered throughout the villages of Fuissé, Solutré-Pouilly, Vergisson and Chaintré. It was fermented spontaneously in 500-litre oak casks (10 percent new) then aged on the fine lees for 14 months, effectively integrating the wine’s precise flavours in a clean, simple line. Fresh green apple scents highlight the deeper, resonant tones of the fruit, but it’s the texture that makes a lasting impression, firm and detailed in its lusciousness.” – Wine & Spirits Magazine
With respected critics such as Jasper Morris reporting that 2017 is “a delicious vintage for white Burgundy”, Allen Meadows saying that “the 2017s deserve a place in your cellars”, and Neal Martin calling it a “modern classic vintage” with some “quite brilliant whites”; this is a vintage you need to be all over.
This biodynamic Pouilly-Fuissé is crafted from grapes picked from old vines. The care required to farm in this way coupled with the concentration and complexity of that “Vielles Vignes” fruit makes for a very special wine indeed. The richness of roasted hazelnuts, toasted almonds and lemon meringue pie are balanced beautifully by the crunchy apple and beach pebble notes. Consider pairing this wonderful white with roast chicken, creamy pasta, fish pie, buttery sauces or mild coconut-based curries.
Vincent Girardin was born in Santenay and is the eleventh generation of his family to make wine in the region, so he knows a thing or two about creating great Burgundy.
