Jägermeister is a world-famous German liqueur named after the “master of the hunt”. Well, your hunt is over my friend, because you’ve stumbled across the rare Manchester Edition bottling, featuring a one-off label depicting the landmarks of that great city.
It's crafted using 56 herbs, fruits, roots and spices, which are macerated in spirit for up to six weeks before being aged in oak. The recipe devised by Curt Mast, a keen hunter and the son of vinegar business owner, has remained unchanged for more than 80 years, while its popularity has grown almost exponentially. The brand's logo features a glowing cross floating between the antlers of a stag, in honour of two Christian patron saints, Saint Hubertus and Saint Eustace, who saw just such a vision. Built almost like a brick, the heavy-duty bottle is designed to be able to withstand the hardship of the great outdoors. Although today, you’re more likely to find it in nightclubs.
Traditionally served cold as a shot, Jägermeister presents potent aromas and flavours of bittersweet herbs, stewed fruit, dark chocolate, cola, liquorice, orange peel, prunes, damsons, sloes, menthol, aniseed, nutmeg and peppery spices. Although famed for its use in a Jägerbomb cocktail, it can also be sipped neat as digestif or mixed into an interesting Negroni, swapping a little of the Campari out.
