Tasmanian sparkling to rival any Grand Marque Champagne.

This bottle represents a rare opportunity to sample Jansz Tasmania with a little extra age on it. Late Disgorged Vintage 2012 is crafted from some of the finest fruit produced on the island. Partially barrel fermented for seven months and matured on the lees (the process that imparts the creamy yeasty and nutty notes that top-flight sparkling is famous for) for just under eight years almost twice as long as the Vintage Cuvée. The result is a yeasty complex and luxurious wine that fills the mouth with nuances of sea spray strawberries almond biscotti red cherries poached pear nougat brioche honey rose petal candied citrus peel and roasted hazelnuts. There’s also an umami character developing suggestive of miso mushrooms truffle and Cognac. Simply sensational this will wow your guests if served as an aperitif or alongside truffle-topped dishes. However we recommend keeping a couple of glasses back to pair with a decadent breakfast of scrambled eggs ackee or tofu drizzled with a little truffle oil and served on top of a toasted brioche or bagel.

Proudly Tasmanian Jansz Tasmania was established in 1986 and named in homage to the Dutch explorer Abel Janszoon Tasman who was the first European to lay eyes on the island in 1642. The region’s likeness to Champagne captured the imagination of Heemskerk Wines and the Champagne house Louis Roederer (producers of the iconic Cristal) who embarked on creating premium Australian sparkling wine there. Alongside the likes of House of Arras the pioneering Jansz sets the benchmark for Australian sparkling wine and the brand was instrumental in putting Tasmania on the wine world’s radar. Now owned by the Australian Hill-Smith family Jansz Tasmania – rated as a five-star winery by James Halliday’s Wine Companion – continue to make world-class wines using the traditional Méthode Champenoise.
