Biodynamic and certified organic Domaine Jean Fournier is one of the very best producers in Marsannay. And according to Decanter Magazine now that Laurent has taken over from his father Jean he “is bringing new dynamism to the wines.” Marsannay doesn’t have crus but Clos du Roy would certainly become one if that changes. Fournier’s old vines were planted between 1945 and 1970 so the fruit they produce is concentrated and layered with complexity. Dense dark cherry wild strawberry blackcurrant and a pinch of sea salt and spice; this would be an exceptional choice for Christmas dinner but also for slow cooked French classics seared duck breast and Mushrooms à la Grecque.
