The small, family-owned estate of Joan d’Anguera has been making wine in the region of Montsant, in the northeast of Spain, for over 200 years. Today, run by the two brothers Joan and Josep, these two young winemakers are regarded amongst the most interesting and talented in all of Spain and are loyal devotees to organic and biodynamic farming practices. Planella 2018 is a blend of the grapes Carignan, Grenache and Syrah. Only produced in minute quantities, the grapes were sourced from four hectares of old-vine vineyards growing on north-facing slopes over limestone and clay soils. A medium-bodied wine with a nose filled with ripe, dense cherries, bramble and spices. The palate is rich and lush with a fruity character that is supported by soft tannins and a refreshing acidity.
