With their experimental grape varieties and labels reminiscent of old-fashioned Penguin book covers Damon and Jonathan Koerner are producing some of Clare Valley’s most innovative wines and they’re damn tasty. These brothers were inspired by the wines they tasted while holidaying in Corsica so on their return they made this cheeky little number.
Sangiovese brings a touch of Tuscany Malbec delivers the spice of Argentina cherry fruit comes from the Grenache and last in the line-up is Sciacarello a grape rarely seen outside of Corsica. It’s aged in ceramic eggs and old oak barrels for six months and is bottled without fining or filtration making it vegan-friendly. The intriguing aromas of lavender tomato strawberry rose rhubarb and cherry give it a really summery feel. Roll this one out with barbeques pizza tomato-based pasta or duck rillettes but to be honest it’ll go with just about anything. Keep an eye on these guys; they’re going to be big.
