Certified organic since 1998 Château La Nerthe is one of the oldest estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape one of the very first to bottle their own wines and one of the first to export their wines outside of France. So they are trusted hands.
2016 was a year that set a new benchmark for the Southern Rhône. The reds are concentrated and racy suggesting that they will cellar quite beautifully. So the Châteauneuf-du-Pape from this vintage is not to be missed.
Château La Nerthe’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2016 is a blend of Grenache Syrah Mourvèdre Cinsault and a splash of a few other bits and pieces. Matured in oak of which 20% was new for 12 months it captures the concentration of the vintage. Blackcurrants cherries plum crumble raspberry black tea lavender toast vanilla woodsmoke cola and earthy spices all come together in an exceptional and velvety red. Consider pairing with roast lamb slow-cooked stews and winter fare but don’t be in any rush to open it because this will continue to evolve beautifully over the next ten years.
