This Saumur Vieilles Vignes Blanc is a glorious Chenin Blanc from Langlois-Château, Loire’s famous Crémant house owned by Champagne Bollinger. The old vines create fruit that’s rich, powerful and concentrated. Combine that with eight to twelve months of maturation in the finest French oak barrels from Burgundy, and you have a very serious wine on your hands. Caramelised pineapple, floral honey, toasted coconut, spiced nuts, apple pie, candied fruit and citrus all combine in this seriously complex white. This is one of Saumur’s flagship wines and it will age for a decade or more. However, it’s hard to resist now, especially with creamy sauces, buttery dishes, cheese, fish and seafood.
