96 points, “The same layers of complexity and spice as the 2017, with all the ripe fruit and power hallmarks of the 2018 vintage. Bouncy and chewy, the tannins are woven into the fruit. Fruit, oak, acid and tannins are integrated and elegant, showing cohesion and harmony from the get-go. Cool-climate elegance is the lasting impression of this wine, as is the fine, chalky tannin profile that ultimately carries the fruit over the course of the palate. Very detailed. Margaret River can be responsible for seriously beautiful Shiraz – this is one.” – James Halliday's Wine Companion

95 points, “Slow autumn ripening and 20% whole-bunch fruit has produced a gorgeously perfumed, elegantly structured Shiraz with savoury charcuterie undertones. Immersive, powdery tannins and gravelly, ironstone acidity lend impetus and animation to the palate-cleaving black berry, currant and bilberry fruit. Black pepper, clove, cardamon and five-spice notes linger on the youthfully taut, fresh finish. A terrific vintage for this hidden gem.” – Decanter

Leeuwin Estate’s most opulent and age-worthy wines can be found in the Art Series. For each new vintage in this highly collectable range, the team at this iconic Margaret River producer commissions a painting by a leading contemporary Australian artist. As a result, the labels are as bright and breathtaking as the wines themselves. The Shiraz 2018 – a grape to often overlooked in Margaret River – displays the pepperiness associate with the cooler climate, alongside blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, liquorice, plums, oak, herby olives, dark chocolate, coffee and spices. Splashes of Malbec and Viognier add further intrigue. There’s something almost Rhône-like in its elegance, but with a more Australian-style oaking. The label for this wine is always a celebration of Aboriginal artists. This year’s was created by Alfreda Nungarrayi, and is entitled ‘Ngapa Jukurrpa’, meaning ‘Water Dreaming’. It depicts Puyurru, located to the west of Yuendumu in Central Australia.

Leeuwin Estate is one of the founding wineries of the now famous Margaret River district in Western Australia. In 1972, legendary Napa Valley winemaker Robert Mondavi first identified the future site of the Leeuwin vineyard as being ideal for the production of premium wine and provided early mentorship to Denis and Tricia Horgan who founded Leeuwin Estate in 1974. Leeuwin enjoyed its first commercial vintage in 1979 and was thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter Magazine gave its highest recommendation to the 1980 Art Series Chardonnay in an international blind tasting. According to respected critic James Halliday, “Leeuwin Estate is a class act.”
