Lochlea has released this very special single malt with only 248 bottles available in the UK, so you’ll have to move quickly if you want one . This is Lochlea’s first single cask expression aged in a single ex-Laphroaig whisky barrel, which was filled in 2019 and bottled in 2023 at a robust strength of 61.5% ABV, free from chill filtration and at a natural colour.

This unique bottling has notes of sweet toffee, orchard fruit and toasted cereal alongside the gentle spiced hints of cinnamon which unfurl to reveal swirls of enticing dry campfire smoke, cracked black pepper and costal currents in the long lingering finish.

This exclusive release from one of Scotland’s younger but consistently excellent distilleries represents a piece of early distillery history and will be one that all whisky afficionados will be keen to take a dram of.

Lochlea was a livestock farm when it was acquired in 2006. The piggery became the distillery, the cattle sheds were turned into bonded warehouses and the pasture was converted to barley fields. It’s a site rich in history as the celebrated Scottish poet Robert Burns lived at Lochlea Farm between 1777 and 1784, no doubt toiling over the same soil that this fiercely independent family-owned distillery now does. As Rabbie famously wrote “Freedom an’ whisky gang thegither.” So raise a dram to a new free spirit from Scotland.
