96 points, “The 2000 Cristal Rosé Vinothèque is similarly striking, soaring from the glass with notes of confit orange and stone fruit mingled with honeycomb, freshly baked bread and subtle hints of fresh field mushrooms. Full-bodied, vinous and multidimensional, it’s ample and layered, with a concentrated core of fruit, lively acids and a long, sapid finish. It’s a remarkable wine in its prime today.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
A Champagne superstar. Expect more huge scores as the rest of the critics get a chance to taste this. Hailing from 2000 – a vintage rated as “outstanding” by the experts at Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate despite a chaotic and unpromising start – this wine has been 20 years in the making. It’s only the fourth vintage to be released of Cristal Vinothèque Rosé by Champagne Louis Roederer and the Chardonnay really shines in this one.
Created by the Chef de Cave, Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, Vinothèque Rosé 2000 is all about purity and energy. It has been aged “sur lattes” (horizontally on the lees) for 11 years, followed by five years “sur pointes” (vertically with the lees in the neck of the bottle), and four years after disgorgement (removal of the lees). Two decades later, it still has remarkable dynamism and vigour. Pale rose gold with a delicate bead, Vinothèque Rosé 2000 is rich with notes of raspberry sorbet, blackcurrant, apricot pastries, marmalade, blood orange, sea salt, honey, spices, baguette and Earl Grey tea. There’s also a liqueur-like silkiness to the palate that’s simply to die for.
Established in 1776, Louis Roederer is one of the few remaining independent, family-owned Champagne houses. By 1876 the House had achieved such a reputation for quality that the second Louis Roederer was asked by Tsar Alexander II to create a new Champagne, Cristal, for the exclusive use of the Russian Tsars. Made exclusively from the best grapes of Louis Roederer’s own vineyards, which are all organically farmed and many are in conversion to biodynamic. It is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, of which a portion has been vinified in oak, giving the wine a full, round body and texture that is characteristic for the House style.
Each bottle comes beautifully presented in a decorative box making it the perfect gift for wine connoisseurs.
