Released in 2021 to celebrate 200 years of Luxardo Maraschino Perla Dry Riserva Bicentenario is a limited edition and the most prestigious product in the company’s entire range.
Luxardo Maraschino Perla Dry was first made in the early 1900s. However prior to this release it hasn’t been made since the 1970s. So this is a very rare opportunity indeed.
It’s a lower sugar higher alcohol expression of Luxardo’s Maraschino that uses a marasca cherry distillate base that’s more than 50 years old. Only 4 999 flask-shaped blue glass bottles were made and each one is wrapped in hand-plaited straw before being slipped into an eco-leather gift box containing a booklet outlining the company’s history. The liquid has a warming kick notes of roasted nuts a faint whiff of smoke and leather peppery spice and an intense hit of concentrated cherry juice and cherry jam.
Perla Dry can be used to create boozier and richer takes on classic cocktails such as a Brooklyn Martinez Tuxedo Aviation Hemingway Special Daiquiri Last Word or Mary Pickford. However because this very special spirit has been 200 years in the making we recommend sipping it neat and lightly chilled.
Established in 1821 by Girolamo Luxardo the distillery that bears his name is one of the oldest and most intriguing to be found anywhere in the world. Originally set up in Zadar which is now part of Croatia they had to move the operation to Italy following the intense bombing of World War II. Relocated to Torreglia in the province of Padua the company is now more than 200 years old but it’s still run by the same founding family and they still use many of the original family recipes.
