This unoaked and vegan-friendly red has the kind of sun-kissed and rustic charm that instantly has you reminiscing about holidays in Greece. Chewy and moreish it buzzes with ripe cherry juicy plum cardamom and a pinch of spice. It was sustainably produced on Crete using the Kotsifali grape a variety indigenous to the island. So you’ll find very few wines quite like this one. Although we recommend pairing it with tomato-based sauces and piquant cheeses our favourite way to drink it is alongside Mushrooms à la Grecque especially if you use a splash of the wine in the dish.
The Lyrarakis Estate is a family-run winery that was established in 1966 in the mountains south of Heraklion on Crete. They have become champions of Greece’s rare ancient and obscure grape varieties making them a bit of a go-to for the adventurous wine drinker.
