On the Greek island of Chios golden tears of resin drip from the mastic trees giving birth to a magical liqueur called Mastiha sometimes known as Mastika. Although enjoyed since ancient times it now has its very own European Union Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status putting it on the foodie map alongside some of the greatest fine wines and cheeses in the world. In 2012 a wildfire sadly ravaged the island destroying half its mastic orchards making this spirit devilishly hard to come by.
M Dry Mastiha is authentic Chios Mastiha produced in copper stills to capture the essence of the island’s beloved mastic. The only difference is that while most Mastiha is sweet this is dry. More elegant than other Mastihas but M Dry Mastiha remains powerfully aromatic with a peppery piquancy and a delicate balancing sweetness. It blows through the senses with a refreshing menthol-like blast bringing with it peppermint leaf lemongrass star anise pepper pine cedar and floral notes. Sip it ice-cold as a shot drink it long topped with Prosecco or tonic or get create with it in cocktails. Greek Martini anyone?
