“EB stands for experimental batch and this is what Mac a very talented and dynamic winemaker does best. He finds older vineyards (the OV in the title refers to the old vines) that have proven a challenge to farm and introduces organic farming methods to turn them into viticultural masterpieces.” – Decanter Magazine

Grab a glass and a corkscrew it’s time for a viticultural masterpiece. Based in the Yarra Valley in the Australian state of Victoria Mac Forbes started his solo adventure in 2004 after a stint with some big names in Europe. He’s a man obsessed with the unique environment of each and every one of his cool-climate vineyard sites. So a lot of emphasis is put on understanding the land and carrying out all the tasks at the best possible time with respect to not only the season but also the site block row and individual vine. This has seen one of Australia’s most respected critics James Halliday describe Mac’s wines as having a “clarity finesse and tension born of philosophy and of place.”

The EB20 OV Chenin is the first time Mac Forbes has bottled Chenin Blanc on its own. The grapes come from his old vines on the Wesburn property at the foot of Mount Bride in the upper Yarra. Bursting with energy we’re surprised that the bottle can hold this one. It buzzes with white peach tangy citrus and complexity. Drink it now with anything you like; it really is that versatile. And if this is Mac’s first attempt at Chenin Blanc we can’t wait for more.
