The Montesquiou family has been firmly rooted in the soil of Gascony since 1040. They were there long before the first written record of distillation in the area in 1310 and their lineage includes the famous musketeer d’Artagnan although he was more of a Burgundy drinker allegedly.
Marquis de Montesquiou Extra Old hails from the Bas Armagnac and La Ténarèze terroirs and it has been aged in wood for over a decade creating deep marmalade and Sherry nuances. Expect notes of prune roasted nuts toasted coconut toffee tobacco honey polished antique wood and spiced Christmas cake fruit with lots of mixed peel and glacé cherries. Exceptionally rich rancio and powerful this is wonderful to sip as a digestif but even better in a d’Artagnan cocktail made with Grand Marnier orange juice sugar syrup and Champagne.
