94 points “A very pretty white as always.” – James Suckling

93 points “Semillon is a grape with a long history in Argentina that many winemakers are now rediscovering in old vineyards. Roberto de la Mota was a pioneer of this trend reviving a 70-year-old vineyard in Paraje Altamira from which he produces this fragrant white with a nose of lime green apple and honey notes. Its elegant but sharp texture makes it the ideal companion for seafood or paella.” – Decanter

93 points “The tenth vintage for a Semillon that pioneered a new wave of Argentine winemaking… A wine with which one is quick to make friends.” – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous

Mendel Semillon is one of Argentina’s most exciting white wines. Inspired by his time in Bordeaux and the variety’s long history in Argentina Roberto de la Mota uses grapes from old vines in Paraje Altamira and ferments 20% in old French oak. What emerges buzzes with energy pulsing out honey hazelnuts lime peel blossom creamy lemon posset apricot pineapple peach Granny Smith coconut smoke and herbs. Quite unlike Semillon from Australia or France this is crunchy and crisp. Consider pairing it with lime-doused tacos ceviche summer vegetable risotto vibrant Vietnamese dishes or carrot and coconut dhal.

Having worked for many years at the iconic Château Cheval Blanc in Saint-Émilion Roberto de la Mota is one of Argentina’s most respected and experienced winemakers. In collaboration with the Sielecki family he is the driving force behind Mendel’s world-class wines. This boutique winery is named after the father of the proprietor Annabelle Sielecki and focuses on two terroirs: vineyards planted in Luján de Cuyo in 1928 and a new project of old vines in Altamira.
