Morris of Rutherglen’s Old Premium Rare Liqueur Muscat is a wine like no other. The Muscat grapes come from the Rutherglen region of North East Victoria, and they are left to hang from their old vines for a considerable time, allowing lots of sugar to build up. Part way through the vinification, a high-strength neutral spirit is added to stop the fermentation. It’s then transferred to casks for maturation. Only the best wines from each vintage find their way into the final blend. Released at approximately 20 years of age, it’s one of Australia’s most awarded Muscat wines and a style too rarely seen on these shores.
The Morris family have been making wines in Rutherglen for over 160 years. David Morris, their Chief Winemaker, is the fifth generation to craft these incredible fortified wines at their Mia Mia winery. Suffice to say, they’ve mastered their art, and you can taste it in every award-winning sip.
