Muga’s Rioja Reserva is a stone-cold classic. Made the old-fashioned way using indigenous yeast wooden vats and egg whites for fining it’s a blend of Tempranillo Garnacha Mazuelo and Graciano matured for 24 months in predominantly French oak followed by 12 months in bottle in their cellar before release. Expect moist forest floor smoked meat truffle roasted coffee vanilla silky red and black fruit and sweet spices. A sure-fire hit whenever it’s served but never more so than with stews casseroles and hotpots.
Muga was founded by Isaac Muga Martínez and his wife Auro Caño in 1932 and is today one of Rioja’s most iconic names. Based in the Alta sub-area of Rioja the wines produced by Muga are traditional in style and are typically elegant refined and aged for a long period in oak barrels.
