ROTATE BIRGER CHRISTENSEN
The Scandi export from Jeanette Madsen and Thora Valdimars makes us wonder why chintz, leg-of-mutton sleeves and thigh-high hems haven’t always been part of our wardrobes.

“The Rotate woman embraces her femininity and likes to stand out in the crowd. She’s never a slave to trends. She wears Rotate with boots for work and goes all-in on beautiful accessories for evening. If we had to dress exclusively from one decade, it would be the 80s, without a doubt. Women had this sense of power then. They were daring, sexy and unafraid to stand out in a crowd. We both have kids, so we mostly stay in – but we love going out when it’s something special, like a birthday. If we could have attended any party, it would probably have been Mick and Bianca’s wedding. It looked crazy.”

COCKTAIL HOUR QUESTIONS

What three words sum up the AW19 collection?
Both: Bold, sensual and daring.

Who would be your ultimate party guest?
Both: Cardi B and Hailey Bieber.

What’s the best party you’ve ever been to?
Thora: It started as a quiet evening with friends and ended up with everyone going out and dancing the whole night. It was so much fun – it was one of my favourites.
Jeanette: My wedding. A private party surrounded by the ones you love and celebrating love... it just doesn’t get any better. We ended up with dancing and cocktails at the Nimb Hotel in Copenhagen, and continued the party at a bar we rented. It had the best music, and we ate mini burgers as a late-night snack.

RETROFÊTE
The brainchild of husband-and-husband duo Ohad Seroya and Aviad Klin, the label is all about spangly minis and shimmering maxis.

“Women have to be confident to wear our clothes. I see it when they wear the pieces, and I’m grateful when they tell me they feel not only glamorous, but also comfortable. It gives them a special kind of energy. We are not afraid, we are not quiet. Clothes give you presence, so we want them to feel present. Jennifer Lopez really epitomises our brand and all we stand for. She was one of the first to wear our designs and has always supported us. We think she’s so fabulous.

The New York party scene during the 70s, 80s and 90s was epic. Studio 54 and Area were the most iconic of them all. Disco is at the core of the brand and, of course, we aren’t ones to pass up an opportunity to attend a party. We want women to feel sexy and assured in our dresses. The styles we design are bold and playful and will inevitably make whoever wears them the centre of attention. You have to be confident in what you’re wearing. I tell my friends, wear whatever you want... but if you aren’t confident, it shows. I want to make people feel great; a powerful woman is unstoppable.”

COCKTAIL HOUR QUESTIONS

What three words sum up the AW19 collection?
Aviad: Vintage, glamorous, and wow!

Going out or staying in?
Aviad: Going out! It’s not just our dresses that like to be part of the party – we’re all about a good night out.

What’s the best party you’ve ever been to?
Ohad: Why pick just one? There have been so many, all of which have influenced Retrofête, and will continue to.

Bianca or Jerry?
Ohad: Bianca. She’s our style icon, the queen of Studio 54.
