As label loves go, Tory Burch will always have a special place in women’s hearts (not to mention wardrobes). The New York-based brand is adored the world over for clothing, bags and accessories that blend boho-in-Soho style with the sun-kissed preppy chic of the Hamptons.

The Autumn/Winter 2019 edit is our latest crush: patchwork, lace and poetic prints tell a story of modern romance.

The AW19 collection is inspired by Black Mountain College, known for its unconventional approach to education and for shaping the trajectory of modern art in America. Alumni include expressionist painters Willem de Kooning and Robert Rauschenberg, modernists Josef and Anni Albers, and influential architect Buckminster Fuller.

The school’s progressive attitude and intellectual freedom have been interpreted in colour-blocking, bold stripes, clashing prints and feminine florals. The uncomplicated, relaxed silhouettes capture a sense of modernity by balancing sharply tailored clothing against billowy shapes. Details of artistic eccentricity include raw fringing, a sharp print-on-pleat technique, crochet and embroidery – all of which pay homage to the handcrafted aesthetic at the core of Black Mountain College.
