Gold Medal “This wine is astoundingly approachable now but its future potential is awesome.” – International Wine & Spirit Competition 2016
That prediction of awesome potential proved bang on the money. 2014 was a slightly cooler vintage producing elegant and lighter wines. So Nicolas Potel’s Nuits-Saint-Georges is packed with summery notes of peony rose raspberry strawberry cherry and herb patch. With a little more bottle age it has developed an opulent texture with some gorgeous savoury and truffle notes beginning to creep in. A treat that’s not to be missed.
Nicolas Potel is one of Burgundy’s most infectiously passionate and dynamic winemakers. He created his negociant business after the death of his father Gérard and the sale of Domaine de la Pousse d’Or where his father had been working. It fast became a go-to source of excellent red wines. In 2009 he left the business to pursue a new venture Domaine de Bellene and the negociant business Maison Roche de Bellene. But the fine wines have continued to flow under the ownership of the Cottin brothers from Labouré-Roi.
