Low Intervention Organic Alcohol-Free White No.1 is made from a summery blend of Garganega and Vespaiola grapes which are picked by hand on a family-owned vineyard in Breganze Veneto. Garganega is the grape famously used Soave and Vespaiola is a speciality of Breganze. The average vineyard produces 0.53kg of CO? per 750ml bottle but the vineyards used for Oddbird’s Low Intervention wines produce just 0.08kg. So not only is this wine better for your health because it’s alcohol free but it’s also better for the planet.
The fresh juice is spontaneously fermented and vinified in stainless steel. Where the team at Oddbird excels is the skill in the de-alcoholising process managing to retain all the intensity and juiciness of the wine. Youthful and vibrant this practically crunches with crisp pear citrus sorbet floral honey and beach pebbles. But there’s also a lovely roundness to the finish presumably from the 12 months ageing the wine undergoes. Gorgeous with mildly spiced dishes pasta salads and light bites we keep wondering whether it would be OK to have a glass during a WFH lunch.
