Clos du Cromin is a plot surrounded by a stone wall in the northeast of Meursault village not far from “Les Santenots”. The wines here display both elegance and muscle not unlike a ballet dancer powerful and precise but lithe and full of energy. Ready yourself for lemon verbena lime blossom butter toasted hazelnuts citrus peel and an exceptional minerality. Pair with fish fried in butter roasted chicken or a risotto scattered with walnuts.

2018 was a rare vintage yielding both quantity and quality. As Jancis Robinson notes “The unexpectedly crisp wines charmed early tasters.” So these are wines that Chardonnay lovers need to be all over.

Olivier Leflaive is part of one of Burgundy’s most iconic dynasties. He co-ran Domaine Leflaive for over a decade including four years in collaboration with his cousin the late great Anne-Claude. Having set up a successful négociant business on the side Olivier decided in 1994 to spread his wings and pursue his own venture. With that name fine Burgundy running in his blood and the help of sensational winemakers like Jean-Marc Boillot (grandson of Etienne Sauzet) and Franck Grux (previously at Domaine Roulot) Olivier Leflaive’s enterprise was assured stardom. The business owns around 15 hectares of vineyards in prime locations such as Puligny-Montrachet Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet. But they also work with around 100 trusted growers operating quite a unique approach of buying grapes while still on the vine rather than wine in barrels. This means that all wines bearing the name are completely vinified matured and bottled by Olivier Leflaive. It’s also worth noting that the company’s wine was chosen by the British royal family to be served at the wedding of Ms Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
